Barbara Keeley MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Minister for Older People, Care and Carers, responding to the submission to the Treasury ahead of November’s spending review by 20 care organisations, said:
“This stark warning should ring alarm bells in 10 Downing Street.
“The Government’s failure to address the desperate and growing crisis in older people’s care is one of the key reasons why the NHS is under so much pressure.
“300,000 fewer older people are now getting the crucial help they need than when David Cameron came to power. This means more older people ending up in hospital and delayed discharges at a near record high.
“Unless the Government takes urgent action to address the crisis it will have a devastating impact on services that are essential to thousands of vulnerable people and their families.”
